Shahsavan Long Rug, Hashtrud area before 1800, with different Turkoman symbols like Salor göls and Saryk borders.

The great shah Abbas became a king when he was about 16 years old. At the time the GHEZELBASH army was very powerful and in control of most authorities. He decided to form a militia army to  stand against the Ghezelbash. From the year 159 0 Shah Abbas started to form this army of different tribes of Shahsavans. Shahsavan means loyal to the shah. these Shiat tribes consisted from Bakhtiaries, Afshars, Zolghadr, to Saloors. At that time Saloors were amongst the biggest Turkman tribes and the majority were shiats.

When the Safavid's came to power there were tensions and sometimes little clashes between them and the Ottomans, so Dashte Moghan and surrounding valleys were strong holds for the persian army. It is from this time that the Shahsavan started settling in different areas.

Nader shah was crowned in Dashte Moghan, the expansion of Shahsavans in Dashte Moghan and surroundings continued till the Ghagar dynasty came to power.

When Tehran became the Capital in the late 18th cen tury this power center from Dashte Moghan was transfered to Varamin. From 19th century on we will see the presence of all these tribes in pieces from Varamin. Hand weaves from Varamin with over 200 years of time span show the beauty of colors chosen by Shahsavans. It is more difficult to categorize the different tribes of Shahsavans than Varamins because they go back more in time.

In conclusion the weave and wool of "Hashtrood" is similar to the weaves of the 19th & the first half of the 20th century."Hashtrood" in the southern edge of Dashte Moghan is the migration ground for Shahsavans.
